DONATIONS

Every single thing we hand out to women while they are living on the street as well as everything we give to them once they are housed has been donated to us by the amazing people who support our work.

We could not do any of it without their help.

We are continually humbled and amazed by their generosity.

MONETARY DONATIONS

Since we are an all-volunteer nonprofit, 100% of all monetary donations go directly to help women on the street.

We have remained true to our grassroots origins by not taking on government grants but instead by welcoming donations of money and products from private individuals, non-traditional grant makers and other organizations. This means that every single donation makes a big difference. When a person gives just $5 it means we can buy five tax-free flashlights at the dollar store (since we are tax exempt) and provide safety to five women on the street.

This funding approach is not common and it means we are not a well-to-do nonprofit, but it gives us much more flexibility as an organization and ensures nothing impedes the staunch advocacy of our clients.

ONLINE

Credit and debit cards can be used to make donations by clicking the "SEND" button at PayPal.Me/streetsafe

Note: We often get asked if we use Venmo, but unfortunately, at this time, they have chosen to work with just a few select nonprofits as part of a beta test. We will join them as soon as they have a process for other nonprofits.

DONATIONS FOR STREET OUTREACH

The main thing we always need is chocolate. Seriously. We go through about $100 of it — or 20 pounds — a week. The chocolate serves, among other things, to entice women who might otherwise ignore us — like trafficking victims who are being watched — to stop and say hello. And that’s all we need to make an initial connection which, over time, might lead to trust and a conversation about getting out.

But we also need lots of other stuff.

We ask that some it be donated brand-new, like the underwear. Well, and the condoms. And the tampons. You get the idea.

But many items can be gently used, like women’s clothing, bras, purses, shoes, etc.

We do take partially used beauty items. For instance, if you bought a lotion but once you got it home, you realized you hate the smell, we’ll happily take that smelly stuff off your hands. But if an item is more than half used up or rough around the edges, it would probably be better to put it in the recycling bin.
